Warburtains Animation Evaluation

Animation with no background music

Animation with background music

In this task we were told to develop and design a 2D animation to advertise Warburtons new ‘thin bagel’. We were told that the target audience was at woman aged 20-45.

I started by researching more about Warburtons and their past in advertising, history as a whole and where they are from to try and gather ideas to make a story from, this really help structure my animation and ideas towards the main piece. After this I did more research for different animation styles seeing other people’s work getting information and inspiration into what kinda style I would want to do. After going through youtube, tv, adverts and the web looking for different styles which would aid me.

To create my animation I started with storyboards and drawn ideas to help me think of a story to my animation and what the characters would be like. The target audience was towards women, so I targeted mothers with imaginative children to show it will keep them and their family more healthy and that this is a good alternative to other bagels. I based the style of the characters of animators on youtube as I feel their animation style would appeal to families, women and people in general. This is also where I got most of my inspiration from when researching I was getting ideas from other places with helped me decide on a story with entertaining characters who could be used in other adverts or brand games, so it could add a whole more load of story driven adverts using these characters as a base. I wanted to keep it simple yet stylized so maybe people could relate. I wanted to keep the story simple yet entertaining and shows how far the boys will go to have a thin bagel, it also connects to what people are doing more and more. What I like about my animation is the style of it as it in my opinion makes it look much better than it would if I chose another style. I feel in the future, as this is the first real animation I’ve made would be to take more time out and work on my own skill as an animator to make the best animation, because I feel I’ve done a good job with where my skill is at the moment.

Overall I feel that my animation had a good story with appeals the most women who have a family and makes people laugh which would make people watch and consider buying this product. Also the animation and style could be improved on as time goes on but for where my ability is at right now I think I did a good job showing off the product.

Animation Feedback (Peer/Myself)

Peer Advice and Feedback:

  • Cool animation style
  • Interesting idea
  • Not Bad
  • Need to fix editing
  • Maybe a little neater

I have understood the things I need to do the improve my animation better. I will go through making the appropriate adjustments to my work so it will be at a better quality for the final piece of work. I will try to improve the editing as at the point of this comment it is quite messy with some dodgy camera angles, this won’t take long to complete as I will do it while in my privet work at home later today.

Personal Feedback

  • Like the style
  • Need to add sound
  • Need to fix editing
  • I feel I did a good job on the backgrounds
  • Nearly finished

I will make adjustments later on, to what I’ve said.

In the morning around 9:30 to 12:30 I will be trying to fix he camera angle issues, so i’ll be fixing how it went wrong

In the afternoon 1:30 to 5:00 I would be trying to work on the sound effects and voices I will be doing this at home in my own time as well.

Warburtons Idea Treatment (SOLO)

It is base of a real life event that changed my day the other week, Basically it starts of with someone trying to make a sandwich then realises there isn’t any bread substance to put it in (as they discover the new thin bagel later (buy it now btw)) so the character panics, as I did, runs upstairs, swings open his brother’s door. He grabs him, pulls him into the main character’s room. He sits him down on a chair, puts a high tech hat on him that looks like a sieve  while he is questioning what he is doing. Moments later the brother gets sucked into the sieve hat machine which is connected to the main character’s computer and is sucked into the internet (At this point there is a big flash when this happens). The main guy is trying to tell his brother to get him bread for a sandwich, as the brother is freaking out (The internet is a dark setting with website pages floating around him). A few seconds later the brother calms down, then looks through the internet, through internet memes and websites, until he finds himself at the Warburton’s website. He sees the thin bagel branding on the site and the main character says it looks good and tells him to grab that or something. The machine starts up, there is a flash, then the end scene is them at a table having a toasted bagel whilst the brother is rocking back and forth next to him.

This is the basic concept for my animation. I have an idea for the type of animation and such. But this is it so far and there will be hints to Bolton and that area in the internet when the character goes in and also when in the characters house.

Different types of animation

  1. KineticTypography   http://www.creativebloq.com/typography/examples-kinetic-typography-11121304

Kinetic Typography comes in different shapes and forms whether its in a movie or advert this type of animation can come in many shapes and forms so it has a broad range of different ways to display you message or scene. I’m movies its mainly used for the intro for the movies show the actors/directors names or used in the end credits as its a good way of showing off the movie, but in adverts its mainly used through out the video to show off the product in a refreshing and different way .

2. Stop Frame (stop motion)

Stop frame animation or stop motion what ever you call it has been used throughout the media spectrum such as movies, tv shows and adverts. Movies like the nightmare before christmas / fantastic mr fox, tv shows like Wallace and Gromit / shawn the sheep and adverts like the target girl dreaming ad. These types of animation set apart from the norm as the long time to create the frame by frame animation is a tedious process to make and isn’t done as much as.

3. Motion Graphics

Motion Graphic animation are all made using digital footage/ animation soft wear on a computer as it is made by electronic media. this uses a frame by frame then computers calculate the changes them making the illusion of motion. This is used a lot in media mainly in advertisements and normal use if you click the link above you, you will see different types of motion graphic. also this type of animation is used in credit scenes at the end of movies as its a cleaver eye catching way of praising the actors/actress’ and directors ect work in the film.

Adverts

This adverts shows off a scarecrow not happy with how his life is going and decides to make a change in a dramatic way and starts his own job and changes the way off doing things, I feel the ad really captivates the audience into the video as its message is strong even though its just for a mobile game app.

The way this advert really shows off what happens in real life, people are unhappy with their jobs and are scared about moving getting a new job as there comfortable with where they are, so they don’t want leave. This show someone that does something different and makes a difference to his life starting his own business being his own boss, this could inspire people  to change how the life is for the better and play the game I feel it has a deeper meaning that just an add for a game its a different way of looking at things a change, this shows off the game as its different and changes the way you look at thinks as your helping this scarecrow follow his dreams and maybe inspire the audience to follow theirs. It also shows the way the food of the world has changed from all natural and all free range to a much more captivity and genetically modified food but we don’t need that all we need is fresh food and a better way of looking at things.

Warburtons target audience

Warburtons target audience is woman between the ages of 20 to 45. The typical life style of the Warburtons audience is a healthy one as thats what they promote a healthy way of living. The audience might go to the gym, working a lot and enjoy good food but something they may avoid is something that could add that few extra pounds to the weighing scale so the new bagel would be perfect for them. showing that the bagel is thinner could attract more people as that name and what it is sounds health. This would attract more customers to the Warburtons brand.

When creating my advert for the new bagel and I am sure to add this into my work as I create it. I will make the advert show that I have take the lifestyle of the target into consideration.
